Aero-vibroacoustic formulation based on the perturbed convective wave equation

Abstract:
The perturbed convective wave equation (PCWE) is an exact reformulation of the acoustic perturbation equations (APE 2) for low Mach numbers. In doing so, the partial differential equation consists of a convective wave operator and the source term is defined by the substantial time derivative of the incompressible flow pressure. For the exact reformulation of APE to PCWE, the acoustic velocity potential is introduced as the solution variable. This equation allows for an extension to include the coupling to mechanical structures and thus consider vibroacoustic naturally. Furthermore, model-dependent simplifications are discussed and presented based on human phonation. To conclude, this formulation illustrates the difference between the sound generation process and the transmission of sound. The study helps to distinguish between fluid dynamic resonances, structural resonances, and acoustic amplification.
