A High-Resolution Spatial Room Impulse Response Database

Abstract:
This work presents an open-source database of spatial room impulse responses (SRIRs) captured at three different rooms of TH Köln. The database includes binaural room impulse responses (BRIRs) measured with a Neumann KU100 dummy head on a horizontal grid, omnidirectional impulse responses (IRs), and rigid spherical microphone array (SMA) impulse responses measured sequentially with an automated single-microphone measurement system. In each of the three rooms, an audio laboratory (RT60 = 0.81 s, f = 0.25-8 kHz), a seminar room (RT60 = 0.89 s, f = 0.25-8 kHz), and a lecture hall (RT60 = 1.0 s, f = 0.25-8 kHz), we conducted measurements for three source and two receiver positions. Currently available SMA measurements have a maximum spatial order of N = 29 for the spherical harmonic transform. However, as head-related transfer functions (HRTFs) have a spatial order greater than N = 40, binaural reproduction of sound fields at N = 29 still has the disadvantage that the HRTFs must be reduced in spatial order. To avoid this and guarantee artifact-free binaural reproduction without audible spatial aliasing and order truncation effects, we performed the SMA measurements on a Lebedev grid with a spatial order of N = 44.
