Abstract:
In the last two decades, many types of haptic feedback devices have been presented for various reasons such as for the hand, arm, chest, and whole body. However, many haptic devices have been investigated in terms of technical aspects instead of further applications. In this study, the effect of haptic feedback on the movie experience is evaluated. Hence, a short movie, where the main character exposes different physical contacts, was recorded. Electrovibration signals were prepared corresponding to these activities, and driven via upper body commercial haptic suit, TeslaSuit. 9 subjects watched the video with and without haptic feedback, and they evaluated the plausibility of both conditions using the magnitude estimation approach. According to the results, plausibility from a movie experience is augmented through upper body haptic feedback.
