Data Set: A Collection of BRIRs for a Listener Wearing Different Types of Open Headphones

Abstract:
A major goal of auditory augmented reality is the seamless integration of virtual sound sources into the real environment. The presence of headphones causes distortions in the real sound field arriving at the ears. These distortions which can result in severe audible artifacts, vary with the type of headphones and the direction of the sound source relative to the listener. BRIRs were measured with a KEMAR 45BA wearing eight different configurations of open headphone models. Repeated repositioning of the headphones was taken into account. An earlier study evaluated the perceptual effects. This paper presents a detailed physical analysis of this publicly available data set.
